Our founder’s story

Zoie Nott founded Hands and Mind in January 2024 after discovering her passion for Auslan (Australian Sign Language) and the need for more deaf-aware clinicians.

With a background in clinical psychology and ongoing Auslan studies, Zoie aims to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate psychological services for deaf and hard of hearing children and their families.

Committed to reaching urban and rural areas, Zoie aspires to have quality mental health care accessible to all children across Australia.

Acknowledgement of country

Hands and Mind respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands across Australia and their enduring connection to land, language, culture, and community. We honor and recognise the invaluable leadership, contributions, and continued efforts of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We are committed to embedding cultural perspectives in our work and collaborating with First Nations Communities to support and empower children, young people, and families. With great respect, we honor the people, their cultures, and the Elders - past, present, and emerging.

Acknowledgement of Deaf Community

Hands and Mind recognise and honor the members of the Deaf Community in Australia for safeguarding their rich history, culture, and language—Auslan (Australian Sign Language). We also acknowledge the custodians of Auslan, who champion awareness, equality, and access through the promotion of this language. We believe that Auslan serves as a foundation for connection and aim to empower future generations in the Deaf Community to continue preserving its legacy and cultural identity.
